“Julieka Dhu, 22, died in August after being held for unpaid fines at a police watch house in South Hedland in Western Australia.”
The 1987 royal commission made 339 recommendations but most were never put into effect.

The royal commission was 27 years ago, if state and national authorities implemented more or all of the recommendations they could’ve saved lives. Why was nothing done?

Hip-hop helping homeless and at-risk youth to get back on track.

Using hip-hop with an accredited leaning model to help homeless and at-risk youth to get back on track! Long term Government support these sorts of positive social programs would be great!

Allen’s “Killer Pythons” and the sugar epidemic?

Allen’s “Killer Pythons” halved in size.
The company says “The move is part of Nestlé’s efforts to help Australians better manage their health, by controlling the amount of food, especially treats, they eat”
Why didn’t they keep the product the same size and reduce the sugar content? could be something to do with the sugar epidemic? (1)

Cigarettes, plain packaging and legal challenges

Australia introduced plain packaging laws in December, 2012 (1), statistics show a decrease in cigarette sales and tobacco companies are still pursuing legal challenges against plain packaging laws.

Federal Health negotiated with big tobacco companies about a voluntary agreement to list the contents of cigarettes. The ingredients (2) lists an interesting mix of chemicals but doesn’t provide explanitary notes about them.

If the proposed ban (3) is enacted would other states follow? and what lengths would tobacco companies go to challenge it?
