Deaths in custody
I try to keep my posts with a positive sentiment but I posted this because I don’t think there is adequate attention on it:
It’s 2014 and Australian citizens are still dying in custody. Why?
http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2014/09/09/indigenous-death-custody-inquest-prompts-calls-reform
I’ve never had the chance to directly ask or have any interaction with anyone in custody to understand what they’ve been through, how they’re feeling and what past and current situations are affecting their mental health which leads to tragic situations.
If our mental health, correctional and other services had adequate facilities, funding, staff and capacity to provide better care for people who’re in those situations the outcome might be very different.
A death in custody is one death too many.
There’s no excuse for racism.
“Why should anyone be made to feel like crap, just for being who they are?” – there’s no excuse for racism. No one gets to choose their ancestry.
